naughty bus

We bought Naughty Bus yesterday, and it's the best kids book I've seen for ages. A charmingly odd story, very modern, exciting use of photography and photoshop. Plus they do all sorts of stuff with the type that makes Arthur much keener to actually do reading. Which is fantastic. I suspect you graphic designers will love it. (Either that or tell me what unsophisticated design taste I have.)

after my own heart

Just the fact that the Condiment Packet Museum exists makes me glad to be alive. The fact that it's so nicely put together is the cherry on the glad-to-be-alive cake. (thanks to Jonathan)

Best. Book. Ever.

Someone in Bucharest asked me what's my favourite book ever. And without thinking I said Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud. And the more I think about it, the more I agree with myself. It's a completely brilliant book. It's funny, clever and wise. And it uses the form to discuss the form, which is always marvelous. Get yourself a copy.

want a job?

There are some good sounding jobs floating around. You could be a customer insight leader in planning for Digitas Boston. Or you could be a planning trainee at ddblondon. Both good places to work and good jobs to have. I'd be very excited if someone who read about them here ended up with one of these jobs.

comfortable disorientation

Paul has raved to me a couple of times about how perfectly written and observed comfortable disorientation is. But I'd never checked it out until this evening. And he's right. It's brilliant. This post, chosen almost at random, is typically lovely.

NDG's had a splendid idea, which is bound to spread through the humbler pastures of the blogosphere. He's written a marvelously honest set of Ten Worst Posts. So I thought I'd try the same. It's always good to learn from your failings.

Manifesto - not especially original and it doesn't really sound like me. I hadn't got the hang of who I am.

I am pedant - with all the mistakes I make on here, I can't afford to be this pedantic.

Denning - this just illustrates how hard it is to be as funny as Dave.

Cars and cameras - this smacks of looking for a post. Desperate. For anything.

Stranded - this was a lesson about politeness. Anne actually saw this picture first and she wasn't pleased that I didn't mention that. Fair enough.

14th August - why did I imagine anyone needed to know this?

Toy of the month - this is a tale of failed initiative. I liked the Toy Of The Month idea, and I just let it dribble away.

BT to gherkin - this was supposed to be a bold breakthrough in urban landart. But it turned out to be mostly just a line.

shuffleswap - quite a good idea, never followed through on. Sorry.

skypecast scaredy-cat rethink - this was me getting too big for my boots. I thought I'd do some global chat thing and then chickened out at the thought of hosting it all. Still, it turned into coffee mornings, which are a lot more pleasant.

How's that? Anyone got anything worse?
