no music day

Nomusic

If you're listening right now (2pm GMT) then Ben Thompson is interviewing Bill Drummond about No Music Day on Resonance FM. They've started with Douglas Bader talking about Hurricanes so it's off to a good start. I'm taping it off the internet (or trying to) so I can hopefully post an audio file later.

update - here's the audio, it starts oddly, street noise into Douglas Bader, and it's a little quiet for the first couple of minutes (my fault), if you want to skip through it gets to a reasonable volume at about 3:27. And it's well worth listening to.

MP3

And here's the text of the splendid Quentin Crisp quote.

kind of culture shock

Culture_1 If you can stand it you can hear me blathering on on the BBC World Service website right now, here, on Culture Shock.  I was asked to go back and make an appearance as sidekick, rather than interviewee. It was enormous fun, though rather strange because I was massively late for the recording and had to comment on all the features without actually being able to hear them first.

And you discover a strange thing when being interviewed in that environment, you just say stuff, almost entirely at random, just to fill the space. And I say 'kind of' and 'actually' a lot.

Listening back to it I'm not sure I agree with about 50% of what I said.

Ah well. Good fun though. And it's a great programme. Full of interesting stuff from around the world.

american copywriter hijack

Albumcover_1Dave and I had the tremendous honour of recording an episode of American Copywriter last week, while we were in Kansas City. I've not brought myself to listen to it in detail but I suspect Dave and John will give good podcast and I'll um and er a lot. That's normally the way.

culture shock

Cultureshock

I went down to the marvelous Bush House a week or so again and recorded a little bit about Urban Spam for a marvelous World Service programme called Culture Shock. For the next week I believe you'll be able to hear me (if you want to hear a lot of ummming and youknowing) but I'd recommend you listen anyway, because this is exactly the kind of programme the BBC do so well. All sorts of interesting cultural stuff from around the world. And it does all the work for all you global trend-hunty chaps.  A must listen.

ask the napoleons

Fatzainvnapoleonweb_1

So next week I'm doing this Bucharest thing with Neil, Ben and Jeffre. And at some point I'm bound to be stuck with them for a while in a cafe, seedy dive or airport lounge. So I thought I might as well take my tape recorder and ask them some questions.

Anyone got any questions for any of them? Individually or collectively?

creative differences

Miles_apart

This is well worth a listen, a Miles Kington interview with Harry Shearer. Lots of interesting thoughts about the care and feeding of creative people.
