stay with me on this one...

I've just been reading a Tom Peters post about a new book edited by Anita Roddick, called Numbers.

It cleary has serious intent but Peters points out some of the more frivolous stats in there.

One of them references an ancient order called 'The Careful Society Of Lamplighters' which has to be the best name for an organisation ever.

I wish agencies were so imaginatively named - instead of being called things like this or this.

quiet desperation

Dsc00125

I was cleaning out a cupboard and I found this t-shirt. It's from the days when we had (and were losing) the Microsoft account, maybe about 1999? We used to make all sorts of t-shirts for presentations in those days, all written in this nicely long-winded, thoughtful, amusing style.

But it was such a battle. We use to compromise on everything, all the time, just so we could get to the next meeting and then the next meeting and eventually get something on air. So one day, before a huge meeting some of the creatives had these t-shirts made.

I'm very proud of mine.

And I bet this sentiment feels familiar to a lot of people.

baton down the hatches

things has passed the musical baton, which has made me anxious, because I'm not sure I know five people to pass it too, but I'll worry about that later.

Total volume of music on my computer: 41.85 GB representing 7264 songs, most of which I don't like, according to my ipod shuffle behaviour. I'm always shuffling, never listening. There's probably that much again on vinyl. And I seem to like that stuff a lot more. Perhaps it's just because there's not a convenient shuffle button on a turntable.

The last CD I bought Billy Crystal presents The Milt Gabler story. Fantastic.

Song playing right now: You're In A Bad Way by Saint Etienne. (From Smash The System, Singles And More)

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

ABC: The Look of Love
Genesis: Supper's Ready (live from Seconds Out)
Major Force: Return Of The Original Art Form
The Carpenters: Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft
Trouble Funk: Drop The Bomb

Five people to whom I'm passing the baton: Richard, Anne, Gareth, Dave and Sergio.

spousal blogging phenomenon

My wife, Anne has just started her own blog. Today she's making some interesting points about bad analogies and Tory metaphors.

But already reading her blog has let me know stuff about her life I didn't know. And about stuff that's happening at Arthur's school.

You know what it's like, at the end of a work day you don't neccesarily get time to share all the little stories and ideas you want to. You're too knackered or you can't be bothered or you forget. But if you blog them, then you share them. It's like reading someone else's dairy - but with permission.

I think it's going to be interesting.

crazy police

Dsc00492

The Met are mad. They're now threatening criminals with Smart Water. I'm not 100% sure what it is (the site doesn't make it very clear) but I presume it's some advanced technology like the bad guy in Terminator II. Or the creatures from The Abyss. I've got to admit that would scare me if i was dipping for a wallet. But do I believe the Met have developed this mind of technology? I'm not sure I do...

...especially since this is what they seem to think criminals look like these days. I hope there's method in their madness.

spoiled consumers

Jet lag got me up early this morning. So I was walking past Border's at 7.30am, on the way to work. And I was momentarily annoyed that they weren't open yet. 'Jesus - how am I supposed to get my newspaper?'

Then I realised what a spoiled consumer I am. (Or is it spoilt?)

The fact that they're open from 8am until something like 11pm is remarkable enough. When I grew up most shops were stil doing half-day closing. We must sometimes remember to be grateful - especially to the people who have to get there in time to open up for us.

more old music

This is another music experiment from the late 90s featuring lots of people from my old work - especially John, Trish and Becca. Warning - if you didn't work at Wieden and Kennedy you'll probably find it unutterably tedious. Or even if you did.

an amazing number of jennifers

This a track I made ages ago for a w+k project. My friend Jed recorded himself late one night looking at the agency phone list and talking about it. I set it to some music.

eat that egg fast

This is an audioblog experiment. An old story/song thing. Joe Shands supplied the story, I added the audio doodling.
