why?

Staffs

Now I've got nothing against Staffordshire. But why? Why Staffs particularly? Mainly pottery I suppose.

On the other hand, which county has more claim?

No country strikes me as particularly creative. That's just not how you think of counties.

On the third hand, this is perhaps the smallest thing I've ever worried about.

trunk escape

Trunk_escape

It's says something about the world that such a device is neccesary. But I loved these little graphics on the 'emergency trunk release' in my rental car. We at first assumed it was there so hostage victims could escape from gangsters. But then worked out that any sensible gangster would have removed the emergency trunk release prior to installing his or her victim. Maybe it's the running figure that makes it feel so 'noir'.

the power of blurb

The_unfriendly_future_back

Here's a little gallery of sci-fi covers I scanned the other night. The covers are interesting, but the stuff I really love is the blurb. There's some great blurb here.

presentation dilemma

Sometimes I look at this and think it's a picture of the worst presentation ever. And sometimes it looks absolutely perfect.

british hairways

Dsc00341_1

If I was going to embark on another long and pointless project then this would be it - collecting punny hair-dresser names. Because this is a classic. From Sheffield.

snakes and ladders

Snakes_and_ladders

My Mum and Dad have been teaching Arthur snakes and ladders. I think this is precise moment when he 'got it'. What a genius game snakes and ladders is. I'd forgotten how frustrating and exciting it can be. It really does capture flow. Is there a lot of science/art to the placement of the snakes and the ladders, or does it still get exciting if they're in fairly random places? If I was a conceptual artist I think I'd build lots of versions of snakes and ladders, trying to find the ultimate S & L experience (and the opposite, the least satisfying version ever.)

Ducting

We've got to move offices soon. So we've been looking at new buildings. Which means you go to interesting places and see interesting things, good sites. A couple of examples above.

that way

Cardiff_station

They've got these great platform signs at Cardiff station. Somehow the finger/hand makes the direction even more obvious. Less arrows, more pointing fingers. That's my election platform.

I think, the worst parking I've ever seen.
