I just walked past a gallery called Riflemaker. they're currently doing a show about 'The Unseen Art Of William S. Burroughs'.
There are these two magnificent revolving flip-book things in the video which had me hypnotised for minutes. Here's 20 seconds of video to show you what I mean. Not to sound crass - but wouldn't that make a great bit of POS? It's about 1MB.

I was at Scarthin books at the weekend and saw these beautiful books in the 50p section. Only later did I notice that they're all illustrated by the same guy - Leslie Wood.

I saw this sign in the corner at a railway museum. I found it really quite affecting. Is there any more comforting and fundamentally human offer than 'a welcome and a bed'. If hotels remembered that and didn't get obsessed by how cool their lobbies were I think they'd do much better.

Took this while driving into Derby last week. It's supposed to say 'Derby in Bloom' but doesn't really. What makes it better is I then saw a report in the Derby Evening Telegraph saying the Derby In Bloom people are aware, but aren't sure whether it's due to vandalism or just the way the plants have grown.
The topper is that they go on to say that the same thing happened last year and they're not sure what the cause was then either.
I love that. That's the East Midlands spirit; embrace failure, resist change. We rule.
I just found this in a drawer. Bought it on my last trip to Portland. I like it a lot. Wonder what the European version would be?

This must be the least digital thing in the world. Sticking tar down to make roads. It's always smelly and steamy and hot and magnificent. (Blimey, that sounds a little suggestive. Sorry about that.)
