interesting video - andrew

So, here's a bit of video from Interesting2007. Three splendid minutes from Andrew Hovells. Many thanks to the folks at Ogilvy Digital Influence for filming everything for us. I have to apologise, the sound isn't great, though it's listenable. I think Curtis got better sound straight out of the desk so someone who's better at editing than I may be able to piece them together sometime. Meantime if anyone's got any ideas how I can make the audio clearer (with a few clicks in iMovie, which is what I am capable of) that'd be great.

I'm going to get everything I can up over the next few weeks, given my vimeo bandwidth. In no particular order. (I'm not sure what I'll do with the longer presentations, I was thinking of Brightcove, but does anyone have any other thoughts?) Then when they're all done, we'll stick them up on their own site as a permanent archive.

And for those who'd like it we'll also have just sound files too.

interesting video

People have been asking me where all the video is from Interesting2007. Well, it's here:

Dsc03865

Which obviously isn't really good enough. But, today, Steve was kind enough to get me a deal on the renting of one of these for the weekend:

Dsc03864

Well, that's just the flight case. (I love flight cases)

Dsc03866

That's the bit of gear, which enables me to get the video off the tapes and into here:

Dsc03867

So that, hopefully soon, they'll be on this:

it's hypertime

Jack

Various people have been asking me what the comics were that Jack referred to in his Interesting2007 talk. He's handily posted a list here. And a transcript of the whole thing here. Thanks Jack. Now all we need is a reading list from Matt.

UPDATE: Matt's done his list too.

interesting badges

Badge

A few people have asked where I got all the badges made for Interesting. (And other things.) I got them from 50pbadges and they're brilliant. They seem to arrive only seconds after you order them. And if you order enough they cost less than 50p.

this is tomorrow

Thisistomorrow

I've just come back from the first outing of a fantastic film called This Is Tomorrow, made more fantastic because it was at the place it was about (if that makes sense) - The Royal Festival Hall. And the music was performed live by Saint Etienne and a youth choir and orchestra. The evening had all the ingredients guaranteed to bring a lump to the throat; school orchestra children waving at their parents, lots of bunting and a glorious vision of a socialist utopia. Really good stuff. It had a lot of the spirit of one of those post-war films made by the GPO film unit; it is, after all, celebrating a governmental/commercial enterprise, it should theoretically be weighed down by the dread hands of bureaucracy and commerce, but instead it had the same lightness of touch and awareness of the beauty of the ordinary of those GPO films.

I wonder also if some of the affection I have for bunting comes from soaking in Festival Of Britain things over the years, I think we caught something of the spirit of the festival at Interesting, and maybe it was to do with the bunting.

And I'm not sure whether Anne's going to be putting anything up relating to her talk, but she has made it into postcards and you can buy them. So you should. UPDATE: (Anne's notes are here and the slides are on slideshare.)

More stuff is coming, I'll point to it as and when. Have I missed anything? (All sorts of audio and video coming soon.)

new electroplankton order

Quartet

Some of the less observant of the Interesting2007 attendees may not have noticed but the afternoon scone break saw the world premiere of a new work by The Electroplankton Quartet (pictured above courtesy of Curtis.) (Electroplankton is a music game for the Nintendo DS, which is what we were playing.) As you'll hear from the recording of that performance that Iain's put on our new MySpace page it was a bit of a mess.

Noodle

(This, slightly more rock-oriented shot, by Steve)

What I've subsequently realised though, is that that doesn't matter because it's really just source material for remixes (this one courtesy of jeffre) :

MP3 File

UPDATE: Iain's done an ambient remix, and put all the individual parts here as a zipfile if you'd like to do your own.

interesting pictures

Rooetc

Planner and photographer Matt Baker sent me some great pictures from Interesting. I've stuck them up here.  And added them to the pool, which contains many more great pictures. Thanks to everyone for doing that.

I think this is my favourite, Jack in hypertime:

Hypertime

And this one of Eugenie is sweet:

Matt is available for hire as both photographer and planner and also offers an intriguing combination of both which you should get him to tell you about. His email is mattb_london at hotmail.com

official interesting2007 platinum web developer?

Polaroids

I'm meeting Russ this afternoon to collect the polaroids he took, and get the scans of them. And we've got a ton of film and audio to put up somewhere. And it strikes me that just sticking them on this blog probably doesn't do the job properly. It'd be nice to have somewhere we could archive all that stuff, link to everyone's presentations, and to any ongoing conversation. But I don't know how to do that. The only 'tools' I know how to use are PowerPoint and Typepad. So I was wondering, is there anyone out there who can suggest a very easy way of getting this built, or is there anyone who'd be willing to build it? I'll make you a nice badge. If you're up for it drop me a line - russell at russelldavies.com. thanks.

interesting thanks

Arthur rather knowingly reminded me that I managed to thank about everyone in the world from the stage apart from him and Anne. So my first move has to be to put that right. Anne has been a complete brick about the whole thing, being willing to let me lose quite a pile of money on this whole venture and it wouldn't have been possible without her. So thanks Anne. (She only reads this every couple of months or so, but Anne, when you come across this - thanks.) And you too Arthur, if you come across this when you can read.

And now to the thanks that did get mentioned from the stage, but should be repeated here.

463973669_46078c057f_o_3 Sarah and Charly are now Foskett Massey, they organise things. And they organised the hell out of me and Interesting, all for free, and happily.  They're complete stars and you should get them to do stuff for you.

Also brilliant were all the folks from Imagination; Louise, Chris and Crispin especially, they provided all the AV stuff and came and ran stuff on the day. And completely got into the spirit of it.

I also need to say big thanks to Ricky from Ogilvy PR's Digital Influence group who came and filmed everything at the behest of John. That was very decent of them and hopefully we'll have some lovely film to show you soon.

Do I need to thank The Design Conspiracy again? Probably. Lovely design stuff. Lovely.

The folks from Folksy were splendid too, apparently they sold quite a bit of stuff, but I also think it just added to the atmosphere, like knowing your eccentric uncle is out in the shed doing interesting stuff. If you're doing a conference you should ask them along.

And we should add Innocent for supplying the smoothies, Will and Steve at King Of Shaves for donating class-leading shaving oil, IDEO for paying for the apples, w+k for paying for the scones and Paul for making them. Then I must also say thanks to Jez at Sledge for paying for those rather excellent vegetable matter cups, spoons and plates, and to Love for paying for the  Yorkshire Tea and Yorkshire Tea Biscuits, to Dino for making that fantastic mix for us, to Simon and Curtis for the recording/soon-to-be-podcasting, to Penguin for bringing books (what did everyone get?), to Russell for the portraits which are going to look brilliant and to my OIA colleagues for supporting the whole thing in innumerable ways. Have I forgotten anyone? I bet I have. Sorry. I'll update with additions soon.

But I must say, to everyone who came; thank you for delivering on this:

Clap1

and sometimes this:

Clap2

Just, you know, generally, thanks.
