A visit to Alex Ross led me to the Trumpet Bloopers page - which will bring smiles and tears to anyone who ever played in a school or amateur orchestra. (Especially 'Messiah Organist On Crack') but he also reminded me of the Portsmouth Sinfonia's version of Also Sprach Zarathustra. Genius.
Wow. I'd never heard the Portsmouth Sinfonia before. Triffic. 70s hipster amateur orchestras is a genre I'm yet to explore.
Isn't it interesting that the mistakes made by professional trumpeters in formal recitals sound toe-curlingly dreadful, but the Sinfonia's constant mistakes sound wonderful (imao). It's the trumpeter playing the right notes that stands out.
There's a lesson there for someone about something.
