If you're only an occasional New Yorker reader then get yourself to your local magazinery and get this issue. There's some marvelous stuff in there. Gladwell on Enron, Denby on the future of cinema, Gopnik on watching and thinking about football.
I especially like the idea Gladwell talks about - the difference between a mystery and a puzzle, not thinking about that distinction causes a lot of the arguments about the efficacy of market research.
If you liked the Gladwell article on Enron the NY Times ran a thoughtful op ed rebuttal here.

Thanks both of you - I am bloody obsessed with the whole ENRON thing and this not only will keep me happy for the rest of the evening, but will also piss off my other half who wishes Ken Lay was dead. Oh he is - she should be happy then!

My mom had reams of paperwork at Xmas. Enron shareholders have to fill it in to get one cent for each share, it was something as risible as that.
Antique media played a key role in the rip off that was Enron so whatever the New york Times has to say now...big yawn.
