Went to visit the Government Art Collection today. It's not a government privilege, anyone can go, you just have to keep your eye out for the occasional tours they do.
It's not the Raiders-of-the-Lost-Ark-style warehouse you might imagine. Just a few smallish floors in a modest building off Tottenham Court Road. And most of the good stuff is 'out' - in Ministerial offices or Embassies - but it's still a fascinating hour.
We weren't allowed to take pictures of the art (because 'copyright') but actually the most evocative thing was seeing the title of something ('Everything Beautiful is Far Away') on the back of a picture, leaning against a wall.
There's no way the actual art could live up to the expectation of that title (which I've subsequently discovered is also a Grandaddy lyric.)
