CollectiveX has had very good reviews from people like TechCrunch so I've set one up for the Planning School of the Web. They host discussions, files etc so it might be a good way of managing, hosting stuff and it might be a good place to try our discussion thing on the 23rd. (Though it's a bit network-y, lots of talk of leveraging connections, anyway). I've set up the group at planningschool.collectivex.com but I think I might have to invite you to join. So, can I have some volunteers who want to join, so we can try things out? I need your email address to invite you, so could you email me - russell at russelldavies dot com - if you're up for it.
And do our more technical brethren (and not complete neophiles like me) want to cast their eye over it and see if they think it'll be useful?
Russell I am absolutely available to serve as a human guinea pig for this experiment.

Sorry Russell my contacts must have fogged up but I can't find your email address on your blog so will offer my services here.
Happy to help, happy to go on the list for next time.

Hi Russell
As a marginally technical person I'd have to say that Collectivex looks really good.
The most interesting thing about it is the creation of private social networks. There have been a few of these things around for a while, but this looks like the most fully featured (and well designed) of them all. As you rightly say it is VERY network-y, but maybe that's no bad thing...
Perhaps a couple of things to be aware of:
1. Not sure this is the right place for a 'live discussion' - the discussion feature is much more like a traditional bulletin board. Which I'm sure would be useful for the group, but I don't think it'd handle an 'event' so well.
2. The free versions are ad supported. It doesn't look like the kind of service where they'd abuse the right to advertise to people. But it's just something to be mindful of.
I'd love to be involved, I've mailed you my email.
Cheers
Iain

thanks iain, invite is on its way.
I think you're right about the live discussion thing. It's not the right place for that. We'll try that on skypecast. But it does seem to be taking off as a good place for people to ask each other questions etc. And what's even better, I don't have to do that much, just invite people in. There's about 20 or 30 people there or on their way in. Anyone else want to join. email me. If you have emailled me and not received your invite, let me know.
