I've read a lot about marathons, I've interviewed a lot of people about marathons, and this is the best description of a marathon I've ever read. It's the honesty about pain that makes you feel like it's a real achievement, something you might want to emulate - not the usual nonsense about runner's highs and breaking through personal barriers and finding yourself.
(I should point out that I'm a long way from emulating this.)
Thank you Russell.
I've had quite a lot of neutral or even negative reactions to the post and the news of the run. It seems hard to understand for some people. Quite a few thought I included too much detail - especially in terms of bleeding. But in my view the truth is what made it worth remembering, for good or for ill.
Could you ever see yourself emulating?

Try 'The Curse of Lono' by Hunter S Thompson for a perfect description of a marathon (the Honolulu marathon to be precise).
