I will actually be in London on the 6th. May I come?

Of course you can come, that'd be brilliant.

Which reminds me, a couple of people have said to me recently that they'd like to come but they weren't sure if they could because they weren't actually planners or they thought it would be too high-brow.

This is wrong. Everyone can come. There is no high-brow talk. Someone described it the other day as being like the good bits of a meeting. You know, the chat and banter at the begining and end, without the tedious crap in the middle.

So if you can do that, you can come.

good at chatter. Coming

Coffee in KC...

The key things to remember with Kansas City are that there's nothing of value south of 68th Street or west of State Line.

For a posh cup, with good good, do the The Classic Cup Cafe on the Plaza (www.classiccup.com, weirdly) - they've got a lot of varieties of coffee and you get your individual cafetiere. (I like the Ethiopian, personally.) They also do a very good lox & bagel platter.

The 51st Street Coffeehouse ("Muddy's") (318 East 51st Street) is good for a hipster hangout.

However, the best, and probably the most convenient (assuming you keep to the cardinal rules above), is Broadway Cafe - there's a new one in Westport, and the original is on 41st and Broadway. They roast their own beans and it's a really nice, really chilled hangout. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

It does, however, raise the point - why aren't you just eating BBQ?

Please email me if you need anything in KC - I'm in London now, but still very much in touch (sniffle) with my beloved hometown...

I love blogging. I love that I can ask a question about good places for breakfast in Kansas City and get such a comprehensive answer. Genius.

Jared - what else should I do while I'm there?

More coffee ideas in KC...

If your going to be in the downtown/Crossroads District Coffee Girls is a great little shop with plenty of open space.

Annedore's by the the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. 106 East 43rd Street.

I forgot Anendore's. They do really nice chocolatey things as well.

If you don't eat BBQ, you might as well cancel the trip. Honestly. Gates is a local favorite, but, staying in the downtown area, you can also find Jack Stack - which is delicious. (They do lamb ribs, which, although unconventional, are really yummy).

For touristy fun, my favorite museum is the one for Negro Leagues Baseball (18th and Vine). It may not make sense to anyone that doesn't care about the sport, however.

Another good one is the Steamboat Arabia, down at the city market (go to Cascone's diner while you're there).

On food (why not?), the Plaza III is one of the foremost steak places in Kansas City (which is saying quite a bit). Highly recommend the steak soup and their house salad as well. Plus, they've got a wonderful ritual involving the meat cart.

The Peanut (I think 55th and Main?) is also a staple of Midwestern dining. It's a gritty sports bar with terrifyingly delicious food. Worth dropping in for a cold beer, some cheesy fries and part of a baseball game(or the pork tenderloin...).

The Chiefs are in San Francisco this weekend, but otherwise, that'd be the top thing to do - whether or not you like the sport, going to Arrowhead Stadium on a game day is an awe-inspiring event. 70,000 raving fans, each with their own charcoal grill in the parking lot.

Have a great time...
